A graduate of NSCAD University, Ivan has exhibited in public and private galleries across Canada. He is the recipient of numerous awards and grants and has completed commissions for clients ranging from Canada Post and the Canadian Forces to Halifax Regional Municipality and Saint Lawrence College. Ivan’s work is rooted in experience and memory and is inextricably tied to process and medium.

Painting, public art and community art are Ivan’s passions. Inspired by his Quebec upbringing, Atlantic Canadian home and many travels abroad he is inspired by his physical surroundings. Snow-covered clear cuts, Moroccan walls, back yard flowers, the Medterranian Sea and Halifax’s heritage site Citadel Hill have all wound their way into his memory-inspired compositions.
Biography
Ivan Murphy is an artist living and working in Halifax, Nova Scotia. A professional artist since 1998, Ivan has taught at NSCAD University and the Nova Scotia Community College. When he is not in his studio he is a deck hand working for Atlantic Pilotage Commission in the Halifax harbour and Estate Manager for Gerald Ferguson Fine Art.
Studio
The studio is the place for quiet contemplation, loud music, furious exploration, raucous laughter and Friday beer. Come in and have a look. But be careful—there is paint on everything Ivan touches so don’t lean on anything.
